Stone Buddha Triad in Daesan-ri, Haman

At this site, there are four remaining Buddha statues, forming a group of stone Buddhas.

This temple site, believed to have been a large temple, is located at 1139, Daesan-ri, Haman-myeon, Haman-gun. There are four remaining Buddha statues, forming a group of stone Buddhas. Among the four stone Buddhas, the most complete are two standing Bodhisattva statues. Their form and style are so similar that it is clear they were created as attendants (left and right) to a central standing Buddha statue.

The two Bodhisattva statues feature soft, oval-shaped faces, small physiques and two-tiered pedestals—one octagonal and the other round—showing continuity with the early Unified Silla style. However, the tall cylindrical crowns, short statures, geometric drapery patterns and clothing reminiscent of traditional Korean hanbok all indicate that these are local-style stone Bodhisattva statues from the Goryeo period.

Although the standing Buddha statue is missing its head, its full and elegant form demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship. The severely damaged seated Buddha statue, also missing its head, can be identified as a Goryeo-period statue based on the style and material of its halo, which represents the radiating light from the body. This site was designated as Treasure No. 71 on January 21, 1963.
