The areas surrounding the Namgang River and Nakdonggang River, where Haman Watermelon is primarily cultivated, are gentle alluvial plains with a slope of less than 15%. This allows for high efficiency of sunlight exposure, making watermelon cultivation easier. also, the east-west position of the terrain ensures ample sunlight. Here, The average temperature from November to February is relatively high at 2.1°C, which helps maintain soil temperature, preventing issues like poor early growth and root development caused by low soil temperatures. As a result, Haman Watermelon is recognized as a top-quality product in the country, with excellent flesh quality and high sweetness. It is also known for its diuretic properties and benefits for urinary issues, making it a popular export to the Japanese market as the first of its kind in Korea.
Varieties
- Mango Watermelon: This watermelon has a long oval shape and yellow flesh, with a sweetness level 1–2 Brix higher than regular watermelons. It is characterized by its firm flesh.
- Golden Watermelon: Featuring a golden spotted skin and red flesh, this watermelon has a soft texture and high sweetness, making it the most preferred among colorful watermelons by consumers.
- Black Rice Watermelon: This round watermelon has a thin black skin and is known for its high sweetness and crunchy texture. Unlike black-skinned watermelons, this variety has seeds.
- Fashion Watermelon: Known for its black skin, this seedless watermelon is also referred to as black-skinned watermelon.
